Southwest Subtraction

The girls have written more subtraction stories!

This time the girls designed their stories around the Southwest.  Subtraction is easy when you are dealing 

with poisonous desert creatures...

Zoe's Story

One day in the desert, 5 rattlesnakes were looking for shade.  

And then, a roadrunner came and killed 4 of the rattlesnakes!  

How many rattlesnakes lived?

Victoria' s Story

Once, there were 7 hummingbirds in the Southwest.

6 of the hummingbirds were still hungry, so they went off to find more nectar.

How many hummingbirds were still at the flower?

 

Samya's Story

One hot day in the desert, 7 Gila monsters were looking for some food.

5 of the Gila monsters found food and went home.

How many had to stay in the hot sun, looking for food?

 

Rhea's Story

One night, in New Mexico, a mother scorpion was taking her babies for a walk.

She had 10 babies on her back.

4 of the babies fell off...

How many babies stayed on their mother's back?

 

Quinn's Story

One night in the desert, a coyote bumped into a cactus...

She got 10 prickles - ouch!

She was able to pull 6 prickles out.

One hot morning in the desert, 7 jackrabbits were going to the pond.

4 of the jackrabbits fell into the pond!

One night, in the Southwest, 10 scorpions were looking for food.

7 scorpions saw somebody coming and thought they were in danger - so they left!

But, before they could leave their den, a rattlesnake came into their den and ate 8 of them!

6 of the hikers got bitten by a scorpion and died...

Daisy's Story

Once upon a time in the desert, there was a coyote who went to howl at the moon.
