KC Newsletter
January 6, 2012
We have had a wonderful start to the new year! The girls seem so happy to be back together and ready to embrace new academic challenges.
January begins with a study of snow! We will spend some time thinking about what winter means to us, before we dive into our lengthy Animals in Winter research unit. More detailed information on our research process will follow soon.
Luckily, we do not need snow to learn about it! Did you know that all snowflakes have six points, but no two snowflakes are alike? To demontrate our new scientific knoweldge we have made six pointed snowflakes with pipe cleaners and beads. Now we cab make it snow right in our classroom!
For a tasty introduction into addition and subtraction, we have opened up our "snack store." Once a week, the girls will use bear counters as money and be able to "buy" their snack. The storekeepers (KC girls) will rotate and I will help to keep the math exchange correct. My favorite part about snack store: everyone is so busy shopping that they do not even realize that they are doing math!
Reading Folders: There is a new reading response sheet for the girls to answer after they have read their book to you. The girls may write their answers, or a grown-up may write down their dictations. Thank you for reading at home!
Winter Wear:
KC girls need: Hats/ Hoods and Mittens/ Gloves
We will be going out to play all winter long, so we need to be ready for the cold weather.
Thank you.
