We are traveling to the Southwest! Our final unit of study will be on the Navajo. The Navajo people live in New Mexico and Arizona. First we wil "travel" to the Southwest and learn about the desert. By looking at a map of the United States, each kindergartner had to deiced how she would like to travel from Pennsylvania to New Mexico/Arizona. We graphed our travel preferences. Can you guess how your KC girl is getting to the Southwest?

Everyone is making their own travel log to document all that we are learning about the Southwest. Using our handmade cameras, we are taking "photos" of the landscape and the animals. At first when we learned the sandy, hot climate we thought we should all wear our flip flops, but we have discovered that there are LOTS of poisonous animals in the desert, so we have rethought our footwear. We are keeping our water bottles, sunglasses and hats with us, as you will see in the "photos" of ourselves exploring the Southwest in our travel logs.

Once we have an understanding of where the Navajo people live, then we can begin our in-depth look into their culture and begin to compare and contrast their traditions and life styles with our own. The girls will keep all of their Navajo studies in a folder, which we will send home at the end of the unit.

Thank you for all the wonderful Spring beak mail. We have had so much fun reading what everyone did over the vacation!
