Preparing to Travel

Travel Plans

In preparation for our "trip" to the Southwest, the girls all designed and built a block house as a starting out point.

We looked at a map of the United States and talked about the many ways you could travel from Pennsylvania to Arizona and New Mexico. One travel option is taking a train. If you wanted to take the train in our classroom, you had to get a ticket first!

Our travel plans have encouraged us to look at and study the map of the United States.
Evelyn's Dad came in to help us learn how to read, make and understand maps further by helping us make a map of the KC classroom! Working in half groups, the girls identified the important parts of the classroom, then measured them and then had to draw them to scale in our classroom map. Talk about teamwork! Everyone jumped into the project with enthusiasm.

Thanks to Evelyn's Dad, we now have two classroom maps!
