Highlighting Eric Carle's insect books has been a wonderful resource for exploring the insect world.  While last week was devoted to fireflies, this week we have been thinking about beetles.  After we read The Very Clumsy Click Beetle, we made our own click beetles!  Our beetles really click and flip, so the girls did some recording.  Out of 6 flips, how did your beetle land?  Some of the flips surprised us!

In math we have been looking into measurement.  We read Inch By Inch and learned how an inch worm is useful, because he can measure things.  Not being inch worms ourselves, we have been using inch blocks to measure butterfly wing spans and rulers to measure things around the room.  We are even measuring ourselves in inches, using inch block paper on a large graph.  Do you know how many high your daughter is?  As soon as we complete our height chart, we will put it up and share what we have found out.

Have you heard about our classroom mailbox?  We have been having fun reading and writing letters to each other.  We have also received letters from Popeye & Olive, Mother Earth and our Word Wall Animal Friends.  The letters sent to the whole class are kept in a notebook and piled in wiht our collection of classroom books, so please come take a look.  As a class, we wrote a letter to Eric Carle.  We told him that we are reading his books and that we are artists too!  We are hoping that he will write back to us...

UPCOMING EVENT
* Thursday, October 18th: Apple Mountain Hike
Mrs. Szalay will lead this science driven hike.  Only kindergarten girls hike to Apple Mountain, so it is very special!  We will share our photos and then you will be able to see and hear all about our adventure.  Please dress for the hike: long pants and sneakers.  Thank you.

The week of October 15th starts on Day 5.
