Writing
The KC girls are writing all the time! We write in our journals to record kindergarten memories, we write phonetically in our Writer's Notebook to write both fictional and factual stories and we write cards all the time for the classroom mailbox. Sometimes, we even write letters to ourselves, to insure delivery!
To celebrate Halloween, the girls were asked to create a story about a witch with a clear beginning, middle and end. The girls did an excellent job introducing us to their witches and then relaying their mishaps, adventures and triumphs. We hope that you are feeling brave enough to hear your KCer read you her witch story, we think that they are just spooktacular!
Money Math
This week we are introducing the coins and their value. We have have read stories about spending money, we have sorted coins and we have had a chance to incorporate money play into our Witch's Supermarket. The market is a big hit and the girls have done a wonderful job taking turns being behind the counter and filling up their shopping cart. We have also gone through many shopping list pads, as our shoppers like to make long, scribbly lists for themselves. While our play supermarket is a lot of fun, it also provides opportunities for collaboration, exposure to coins and their purpose, and imaginative play - will they need a prop from the dress ups, like a pocket book or a cell phone, how will they handle two employes behind the counter, or a customer who can not find her credit card? Ask your daughter what she liked best about our supermarket, you may be surprised...
Wednesday, October 31st: Halloween Parade, 8:20 turf field. Please come wave to us!
