Mrs. Szalay challenged us to track the Peppermint Beetle through the woods, using only our sense of smell! Luckily, the Peppermint Beetle leaves it's scent on trees, so we smelled tree trunks along the trail and when we discovered a peppermint smell, we marked the tree!

The stream was not the right color...
We discussed why we thought the beetle wanted us to see the stream and we decided it was so we would see that the stream was the wrong color and Mrs. Szalay could tell someone about the problem. Some of us thought we should write Mother Earth a letter.
A successful hike now complete, we headed back to school.
