Looking for Animals in the Woods

We went for a walk in the woods to see if we could find any animals.

We found a nest in a tree!
But it was empty...
We headed deeper into the woods - brave, smart KC girls do not give up!

We saw lots of good places for a small animal to curl up and stay warm on a cold winter's day.
We found a large tree trunk that someone had been munching on!
We looked for the hungry nibbler, but we did not find him.

When we found clues, we shared them with each other.

We looked down on the stream, but we did not see animals getting a drink.

We did find empty nuts - so we knew someone had been in the woods eating recently!
Mrs. Szalay lead us down to the stream, so we could check for animal footprints.

Mrs. Szalay pointed out a raccoon footprint in the mud by the edge of the stream!
We did not see the raccoon, but we were very happy to have seen his paw print.
