Animals in Winter Research

Art
Everyone has made a beautiful clay animal! Using a photograph or puppet as a reference, the girls choose the colored clay they needed and set to work to documenting their knowledge through these small 3D creatures.

Math
We have been lots and lots of graphing! So far, we have graphed:
*If we have fur, feathers, hair or a shell.
*How many legs do you have?
*What happens in the winter, do you migrate, hibernate or forage?
*What type of home do you live in - den, burrow, cave…
*What kind of eater you are - herbivore, carnivore or omnivore.

Writing
Every week the word wall sends a new word to learn! We have been using our word of the week to help us do research. When we were given can, the girls had to look through a book to find out one fact that their animal can do. For like, the girls had to find out what their animal would like to eat. For you, we made a whole book about animal homes! The girls take a walk to three different habitats and have to answer the question, what did you see? Each time it is a different animal - to fit the new environment. So while the girls are becoming experts on their winter animal, they are also gathering information about 15 other Pennsylvania animals!
